A Week After the Election, Stacey Abrams Refuses to Concede

The gubernatorial race in Georgia has yet to be called. So far, the votes seem to favor Republican Brian Kemp slightly, but Democratic opponent Stacey Abrams refuses to give up, citing that there are still many absentee, mail-in, and provisional ballots to be counted. If a runoff in December were to ensue and Abrams were to win, she would become the first black female state governor in our nation’s history. Kemp’s campaign has urged Abrams to concede, but she has refused to do so until every ballot in Georgia has been counted. Kemp self-declared victory after the midterm elections and subsequently resigned from his position as Georgia’s secretary of state.
