This facility is a good ole boys club. In this whole facility only 2 women are salaried management out of approximately 25 positions. Despite more qualified women applying for salaried management roles those jobs go to less qualified men. Management does not listen to employee opinions, does not hold focus groups. Employee turnover is through the roof as well as the whole facility being on mandatory overtime for the whole year which makes it clear the unqualified management doesn’t know who to develop solutions to use manpower effectively.

Caterpillar is a great company to work for, but in engineering it would no doubt be a better experience for a male. Caterpillar may be somewhat diverse but inclusiveness is not a strong suit. Things are beginning to change in some areas, but in others, like manufacturing, the culture seems to be stuck back about 20 years. In my division, women only account for 10% of the engineering workforce, and the percentage goes down in technical leadership roles. There are programs in place and great people to work with but Caterpillar still has an overall culture problem that won't be solved until there are more women in leadership roles. My experience could be different than others since it is a giant company. But of the 5 women engineers I knew when we hired in together (and we all worked in different areas), 2 have quit and a third is currently looking at other employment options. Out of the dozens of people I've worked with I can count on one hand how many were women. Caterpillar is up to speed with the policies and practices, the representation and culture just needs to catch up now.

Indifferent Rater

Is behind on creating an inclusive culture with regard to LGBTQIAA+ and disability accommodation, but I know there are people that are pushing back and trying to make things more accessible.

Indifferent Rater

There are a lot of "window dressing" initiatives, but nothing of substance, nothing measurable, nothing impactful. The few women that work there are subjected to nuanced bias on a daily basis. I was told in a recent review, not to smile, so people dont think I'm incompetent. Another colleague was advised by her director in her review to dye her gray hair, because it was career limiting. Our health insurance is horrible for women's health. My birth control is over $100 A month, I've been denied coverage for mammograms, and a colleague breast cancer survivor is denied covered from doctor recommended MRIs, but Viagra is covered.

Unsatisfied Rater

The executive leadership of the company are blatantly non-supportive of diversity and inclusion, and I predict little to no executive opportunity for women in the future. That being said, Caterpillar is a large company full of kind, hard-working people. Middle and lower management are very supportive of flexibly and build a positive and inclusive culture. It is very possible to be a well-compensated woman doing important work here.
