Please note that Arabella is searching for one Senior Director, Strategy & Strategic Implementation Services in any of our five locations.

We seek a senior leader to help build and manage this growing team with a dedication to improving and advancing the social sector. In this role, you will use your experience and passion for professional services and managing top talent, including practice and content leaders on the Advisory team, to ensure service excellence and innovation, and to promote strong collaboration across multiple practice areas, particularly to service complex, multi-service scopes.  Senior directors are standard bearers for quality and stay abreast of trends in the field to regularly improve services, inform training needs, and to hone sales strategy.  Senior directors play an essential role on the Advisory team in designing and serving as senior lead on innovative and complex client projects, building strong client relationships, partnering with our sales team in business development, managing and growing team talent, and contributing positively to team and firm culture. This position reports to the Head of Advisory Services.
 
In addition to deep experience in philanthropy, we are looking for a senior director with a successful track record of leading and managing teams and with a demonstrated commitment to using equitable management practices and racial equity-focused approaches to partnering with clients to guide them through strategy development to strategic implementation to help thePost a Jobm achieve their philanthropic goals. You will need excellent facilitation skills, a client-service orientation, and excellent written and verbal communications skills. Essential Responsibilities
 
Management, Training & Internal Strategy (~40%)
  • Manage a team of specialists advancing work in core practice areas of Strategy & Strategic Implementation
  • Bring staff together regularly to share lessons learned, trouble shoot across projects, share emerging trends, and evolve client service approaches further to better meet client needs
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and management of key components of the team and firm’s strategic plan, annual objectives, and key business performance metrics
  • Inform team training needs and work with training and learning staff to develop training curricula to continually improve the service quality of our work
  • Identify hiring needs
  • Mentor, motivate, and supervise and develop staff on consulting engagements, with formal supervisory responsibilities likely
Client Service (~30%)
  • Guide teams through complex client engagements to ensure high quality, providing expert leadership on a portfolio of projects that may include strategy, grant-making, organizational design, donor collaborative design and management, implementation planning engagements.  Areas of focus include program design, convening strategy, governance design, stakeholder management, and deliverable development.
  • Facilitate key client meetings and decision-making processes, ensuring client deliverable quality.
  • Support teams in navigating scope shifts with an eye towards delivering quality service while also meeting project profitability goals.
  • Develop, manage, and grow working relationships with clients.
  • In the context of project work, train project team members and help develop their skills and talent with special focus on inclusive and creative facilitation and collaborative decision making.
Marketing and Business Development (~30%)
  • Work closely with the Sales team and with the Head of Advisory Services to achieve annual revenue targets and profitability goals
  • Help qualify early stage opportunities and prospects in partnership with Sales team
  • Serve as senior lead on proposals, including advising on scope design and pricing and closing the opportunity with the prospect
  • Inform firmwide business development strategy, including opportunities to launch new product and services and/or adapt existing services to new market segments
  • Help build Arabella’s visibility and professional network
  • Contribute to thought leadership
  • Represent the firm at conferences and events
  • Stay abreast of developments of the field and use this information to hone services and business strategy
 
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
  • Graduate degree or equivalent work experience in relevant field (management consulting, professional services, philanthropy, public policy, nonprofit management, corporate social responsibility, etc.)
  • At least 12-15 years of professional experience with steadily increasing job responsibility and management and oversight experience
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in professional consulting services and/or the social sector. The ideal candidate has philanthropic consulting experience and has worked closely with donors of various types including with staff and leaders of charitable foundations, corporations, and high net worth families, couples, or individuals.
  • Experience with fundraising or business development and providing high-quality client service in a fast-paced, sophisticated environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated ability to structure large amounts of information into written documents that are clear and easy to understand, and/or into engaging client meeting facilitation plans.
  • Experience with strategy development and strategic planning at the programmatic or enterprise level
  • Proven ability to work with diverse audiences and stakeholders, facilitate meetings and conversations, and bring groups to decisions with a goal of excellent client service
  • Ability to manage and lead a complex project, to oversee and delegate to team members, and to meet deadlines, while creating a positive and inclusive team environment
  • Strong research skills and an understanding of how to guide teams in gathering, analyzing, and synthesizing diverse information from written documents and interviews
  • Proven ability to balance multiple priorities and projects with flexibility and an open mind
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Experience designing and managing fast-moving, multi-funder donor collaboratives is a plus but not required

  • The ability to establish and manage effective relationships with diverse stakeholders across the firm, including executive-level colleagues, and to foster a culture of courteous professional interactions
  • The ability to effectively communicate critical firm-wide messages, and to lead others in managing challenging conversations and developing complex communication skills
  • The ability to regularly engage in leadership development activities, and lead firm-wide initiatives that improve firm-wide learning
  • The ability to foster a team culture that encourages creative problem solving, and to ensure teams have resources and training to overcome complex challenges
