This time last year, my life looked completely different.
I was working for another company, living across the country, surrounded by the family and friends I’d built my world around after leaving Wall Street. After 10 years, I was settled in. As any working parent with young children knows, comfort and routine are good.
That stability was challenged in the summer of 2025 with a phone call from a former colleague. The DriveTime Family of Brands was looking for a new Head of Capital Markets and Treasury, and the question posed to me, “So, are you interested?” changed everything.
When the call ended, I was sure of two things. I was interested in the opportunity, but I didn’t know that I wanted to uproot my family and life to take it. It was a big risk that came with big change, especially with my 8‑year‑old already protesting even the possibility of a move.
But I wanted to give it a chance, given that the people I already knew at DriveTime were amazing folks. When I came in for my interviews, that impression only deepened. Even in the Arizona heat during late July, I left feeling like this could be the right choice for me.
I immediately called my husband after the visit. Despite his own hesitancy for our family, he told me to go for it, seeing how excited I was about the opportunity.
So, after more than a decade of familiarity, I chose to pivot.
It certainly hasn’t been easy, juggling and adapting to a new job while preparing the family for the move. But the support from the company—including time to adjust and a temporary remote arrangement—made the difference. For those who know me, it won’t be surprising that I got through it all by compartmentalizing, making lists, tackling tasks, and checking them off one by one.
In the end, balancing a new house search, selling our old home, saying goodbye to dear friends, and easing my kids through the change was worth it.
Today, I’m happy in my new role and have hit the ground running with an incredible team. And as for my daughter, she’s already had her first Arizona playdate and is leveling up her swimming skills!
This transition has shown me the importance of taking a leap into the unknown, even if it's scary.
Say yes, open that door, and make that change.
