How Women Want Companies to #PressforProgress in 2018

Plus: A simple thing you can do right now to show your support for #IWD2018

How Women Want Companies to #PressforProgress in 2018

One of the many great things about having an engaged network of hundreds of thousands of professional women here at InHerSight is that we never have to guess what’s on women’s minds… they tell us.

With the International Women’s Day theme of #PressforProgress, we wanted to know what women most want to see their employers to focus on in 2018. Here’s what we learned.

Time's Up for the Pay Gap

Pay equality is still top of mind and the top priority for working women. 34% of the women we surveyed selected “Review salaries and correct gender pay gaps” as the number one way they want their companies to press for progress.

InHerSight insight
Salary Satisfaction is one of the top two “must-haves” women select in our company matching tool , so companies that want to attract, well, 50% of the workforce and talent pool, would be prudent to make this a priority, and check their Salary Satisfaction scores on our site.

And while we’re seeing more and more companies make a commitment to equal pay for equal work, whether that’s by going the Salesforce route and conducting and audit and making the necessary increases for women (to the tune of millions of dollars in that particular case), or by choosing a more surprising route and lowering men’s compensation as we saw from the BBC, there’s still a lot of work to do.

Pay equality isn’t the only priority. Here’s a breakdown of the survey findings:

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day (March 8) is #PressForProgress. What would you most like to see your employer work on in 2018?

34% Review salaries and correct gender pay gaps
20% Establish more flexible work hours
19% Increase parental leave policies and support for working moms
17% Promote more women into leadership positions
10% Improve training and responsiveness to sexual harassment claims

How You Can Press for Progress Right Now

We’re big fans of this year’s #PressforProgress hashtag. We built InHerSight to do exactly that. And we’re happy to report that with ratings for 65,000 companies, 9 out of 10 women tell us our company reviews are helping them make better, more informed career choices. That’s some serious pressing! But there’s still a lot of pressing to do. In fact, estimates now put gender parity at 216 years away.

So for #IWD2018, we have a small ask that can have a big impact. Help keep the momentum going and make a difference for working women everywhere.

Take 2 minutes to rate a place you’ve worked. Then spread the word by inviting the women in your lives to rate their workplaces, too.

Press on!
