CMT’s Artists of the Year show, airing October 17th, will honor only female country singers this year. The announcement comes after women have criticized the overwhelmingly male-dominated country radio charts and lacking female representation in major country awards. CMT is hoping to turn this trend around -- senior vice president of music and talent Leslie Fram said, "This year, we're evolving the special to reflect what's happening right now in culture and in the lives of our fans." The show will honor Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Karen Fairchild and many others.
