First, the 29-year-old made history as the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Now, she’s making fashion history as well. The well-worn shoes that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sported on the campaign trail will be displayed at the Cornell Costume Collection exhibition called "Women Empowered: Fashions from the Frontline."
The exhibition is urging women to submit items of clothing that have empowered them. Beginning December 6th, spectators will be able to see the shoes of Ocasio-Cortez, the decorative collars of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and suffrage activist Olivia Langdon’s gown, among other historical items. In June, Ocasio-Cortez shared a picture of the tattered shoes, captioning the picture: "Here's my 1st pair of campaign shoes. I knocked doors until rainwater came through my soles. Respect the hustle. We won (because) we out-worked the competition. Period."
