Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Business Intelligence Data Architect who has strong data architecture and design skills with the ability to recommend and implement the right strategy, architecture and approach to collecting, cleaning and consuming data to support BI solutions and projects for the Philips North America Health Systems business.

*** This role requires the ability to be onsite pending reopening of our Alpharetta, GA office

In this role, you have the opportunity to…

  • Partner with analytics leaders and stakeholders supporting the North America Health Systems business to enable sound decisions using a well architected data solution that supports analysis and insights using interpretation of data and trends (leveraging the ‘what’ and ‘why’ of data results). You will be a part of a high-functioning and collaborative Business Intelligence & Analytics team with a focus on a robust data system with a reliable data acquisition with ongoing quality and highly available infrastructure, supporting the reporting, BI and other solutions for the Philips Healthcare North America Health Systems organization.

  • Owns the architecture and design approach, set standards used for all future changes/additions across all teams, oversee the execution to ensure consistency. Work closely with data analysts and database developers across all teams to drive one approach and one shared system managed by the BI team. Collaborate with global and other market solutions to reduce duplication and alignment and future synergies.

  • Oversight of all new and ongoing development, maintenance of the database and ETL infrastructure, manual data processing, data acquisition (automated and manual resource dependent) processes & resource(s) engaged in data management across all BI teams.

  • This position requires little supervision and participates in team strategizing, and vision execution/ implementation of the reporting & BI strategies supporting from a database stand point, collaborates with other team members/BAs in supporting shared/common reporting needs and projects.

This includes:

  • Managing the database artifacts and providing subject-matter expertise on best practices for creation, deployment and ongoing management of databases in a reporting/BI environment

  • Designing databases and data sourcing/ETL requirements for efficient use in reporting and BI

  • Provide support and participate in design and implementation of ETL processes and procedures

You are responsible for (but not limited to)

Database Architecture/Design, ETL Architecture/Design: 50% of time:

  • Manage the database architecture & design activities to ensure standard data modeling practices for a Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence platform are followed, documentation is created and kept up to date, for maximum uptime of database and optimal performance of Reporting/ BI solutions utilizing it

  • Guide and review the ETL architecture, design activities to ensure solutions that fulfills the highly demanding reporting/BI environment needs and consistent across the BI teams. Ensure following and implementation of best practice ETL process and architecture improvements, documentation is created and kept up to date

  • Collaborate and work closely with BAs, Das and ETL developers across the BI teams to coordinate database/ETL development/implementation/changes are aligned across teams.

Data Strategy- 30% of time includes the following activities:

  • Ensure shared and team specific data systems categories are designed and architected to meet the standard expectations

  • Drive a single version of truth for data needed across various sales, service and supporting functions across the North America market

  • Develop future based data strategies to support and enable advanced data analytics

  • Act as the SME for data sourcing as new projects are kicked-off

  • Evaluate and plan activities to implement automation of manual data extracts and other manual activities

  • Interact with the data team developers to help them understand requirements around data requests

Leadership- 20% of time includes the following activities:

  • Demonstrate the ability to lead small cross functional project teams

  • Provide guidance on best practices and approaches to design and implement effective analytics solutions

  • Utilize LEAN and Kaizen concepts to identify and implement data driven continuous improvement initiatives

  • Perform post project reviews with project team from BIS and IT, identify best practices and learning’s and implement in project execution process to improve future project execution

  • Promote Philips values and leadership goals

  • Act as mentor for others in the business

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree within a technical related field (i.e, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics). Masters degree preferred.

  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques

  •  5+ years as a BI Data Architect on SQL Server/Azure

  • Experience in implementing BI data solution on Azure PaaS using Azure SQL Database, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Automation, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake and Blob Storage.

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of SQL. Python and/or R preferred.

  • 5+ years of ETL development experience (preferred)

  • Experience in building Data Warehousing, Data modelling/Architecting, strategies for ETL, identifying metrics, dimensions (and slowing changing dimensions), hierarchies and design of dimensional schema (Star, Snowflake)

  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative analysis and advanced data analysis (preferred)

  • Experience in architecting, designing, developing data systems supporting BI and other analytical, reporting solutions

  • Experience in creation of technical specifications and project documentation and translating functional requirements into detailed technical requirements.

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Project, Access and Visio.

  • Experience in working with several groups of data and users simultaneously.

  • Experience in being innovative and having strong analytic skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong time management skills.

  • Has strong verbal & written communication skills.

  • Experience in problem solving / conflict resolution, critical thinking and priority setting.

  • Knowledge of BI tools (preferred)
